The Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL) has been established by five Southern African countries: Angola, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Zambia with financial support from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. SASSCAL’S Mission is to strengthen the regional capacity to generate and use scientific knowledge products and services for decision making in climate change and adaptive land management -through research management, human capital development and services provision. Through five priority research areas, climate, water, forestry, agriculture and biodiversity, research projects are designed to integrate research, capacity development, and provide the basis for the development of innovative products and services.

COORDINATOR, RESEARCH

SASSCAL invites applications for the position of COORDINATOR, RESEARCH in its Regional Secretariat, located in Windhoek, Namibia. Reporting to the Director, Research and Human Capacity Development (HCD), the Coordinator Research will lead the coordination of SASSCAL’s research portfolio in the 5 SASSCAL member States: Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and south Africa. The Coordinator Research will provide a high-level framework for the guidance of research, investments in climate change and high-quality products and services to aid decision making in SADC.

SASSCAL invites applications for the position of COORDINATOR, OPEN ACCESS DATA CENTRE (OADC) in its Regional Secretariat, located in Windhoek, Namibia. Reporting to the Director, Research and Human Capacity Development (DSTHCD) and working closely with SASSCAL Program Coordinators in five SADC countries, the Coordinator Open Access Data Centre (OADC) will manage and provide expert leadership in ensuring that SASSCAL OADC stores, processes and disseminate data, information and knowledge generated through SASSCAL research and sources. COORDINATOR, HUMAN CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT (HCD)

SASSCAL invites applications for the position of COORDINATOR, HUMAN CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT (HCD) in its Regional Secretariat, located in Windhoek, Namibia. Reporting to the Director, Research and Human Capacity Development (HCD) and working very closely with SASSCAL Programme Coordinators, the Coordinator HCD will coordinate SASSCAL’s human capacity development function in the 5 SASSCAL countries. The Coordinator HCD will contribute to the creation of knowledge economy in SASSCAL region through various academic and non-academic programmes. The coordinator HCD will advise SASSCAL on how to create an enabling environment for young scientist with the view to maximising their potential to carry out scientific research that could enhance the achievement of the vision and mission of SASSCAL.

FUNDRAISING AND CONTRACTS OFFICER

SASSCAL invites applications for the position of FUNDRAISING AND CONTRACTS OFFICER in its Regional Secretariat, located in Windhoek, Namibia. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Fundraising and Contracts Officer will design and lead the implementation of SASSCAL’s fundraising and contracts management portfolio. The Fundraising and Contracts Officer will raise funds through a combination of formal partnerships, direct support and service provision to support SASSCAL program and ensure a consistent management of all fundraising proposals and contracts.

HUMAN RESOURCE OFFICER

SASSCAL invites applications for the position of HUMAN RESOURCE OFFICER in its Regional Secretariat, located in Windhoek, Namibia. Reporting to the Director of Administration and Finance, the Human Resource Officer will manage the Human Resource at the Regional Office and have oversight responsibility for human resource management in the partner countries. The Human Resource Officer will responsible for Human Resource Planning, Recruitment and Selection, Training and Development, Compensation and Benefits, Performance Management, Health and Safety, Labour Relations and Organisational Development at the Regional Office and the Nodes. S/he should be able to work under extreme pressure and multi-task effectively.

PROGRAMME COORDINATOR (NAMIBIA AND ZAMBIA)

SASSCAL invites applications for the position of Programme Coordinator in its Namibia and Zambia National Nodes. The Programme Coordinator will represent SASSCAL’s research at a regional level while at the same time ensuring the day to day implementation of the SASSCAL programme in the respective country. S/He assumes responsibility for effective management and successful execution of the SASSCAL programme towards achieving SASSCAL’s mission to strengthen the regional capacity to generate and use scientific knowledge products and services for decision making on climate change and adaptive land management through research management, human capital development and services provision. Duty station will be the respective national office in Windhoek, Namibia and Lusaka, Zambia.

ADMINISTRATIVE SECRETARY

SASSCAL invites applications for the position of ADMINISTRATIVE SECRETARY in its Regional Secretariat, located in Windhoek, Namibia. Reporting to the Executive Director the Administrative Secretary will provide secretarial and administrative support to the SASSCAL Governing Board. The Administrative Secretary will occasionally provide administrative support to Management in the Regional office. The individual must be a skilled professional, self-starter, be able to handle multiple projects and activities simultaneously, and possess a high level of independent judgment, time management and organizational skills.
