The Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL) has been established by five Southern African countries: Angola, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Zambia with support from the Federal Republic of Germany. The overall objective of SASSCAL is to improve the livelihoods of people and to enhance adaptive land use and sustainable economic development in Southern Africa under global change conditions with focus on five thematic areas of Agriculture, Biodiversity, Climate, Forestry and Water. The SASSCAL initiative focuses on research, capacity development and the provision of appropriate products and services aimed at mitigating and/or dealing with some of the likely impacts of Climate Change.

SASSCAL commits itself to contribute to Capacity Development in the region. To support this effort, SASSCAL offers multi-faceted opportunities for motivated students that have interest in working in multi-functional teams and gain practical experiences in a research driven Institution promoting an environment that is flexible, progressive and open minded to current scientific and technological trends.

Currently, SASSCAL is interested in students with marketing, publicity or journalism experience. The SASSCAL Open Access Data Centre (OADC) is particularly looking for students that have programming experience or interests (in PHP programming, Python scripting, Linux scripting, SQL databases, web design and development (HTML, CSS, Javascript) skills, knowledge of version control systems such as GIT etc..). Thus, students with a background in one or more of these topics are particularly encouraged to seek contact with and explore opportunities at the SASSCAL OADC.
