Relevant Projects

IECN has been involved in many Climate Change projects throughout Africa by developing Global Environmental Facility (GEF) and UNDP/ Africa Adaptation Programme (AAP) country projects - preparation of climate change adaptation proposals for funding for countries e.g. Namibia, Rwanda, Eritrea, Cameroon, Mozambique and Benin.

In Namibia, IECN has worked as expert support on numerous projects, e.g. in support of a Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry (MAWF)/UNDP project titled "Adapting to Climate Change through improved traditional crops and livestock", a pilot project in Omusati region, Namibia funded by GEF/UNDP. IECN has specifically worked on:

Established knowledge/awareness baseline for a local level CCA pilot project

Participatory development and compilation of the first CCA community toolkit; training of community leaders and extension technicians as "Trainer of Trainers" (TOT).

Consultancy on Investment and Financial Flows (I&FF) project coordinate by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism(MET), Namibia and UNDP global programme for assessing the costs of adaptation in the agriculture sector. IECN supports the Adaptation Working Group (AWG) in its work with technical guidance.

Dr. Juliane Zeidler is a member of the Steering Committe of the IUCN Commission on Education and Communication (CEC) (see www.iucn.org), and serves as the Regional Vice Chair for Eastern and Southern Africa. She also represents the Commission on the IUCN Climate Change Core Group.
